AI + Branding: The Story of Creating a Mascot for the “Sportlavka” Brand
The development of artificial intelligence has unveiled unlimited opportunities for the entire marketing niche. SMM is no exception. AI-generated images significantly simplify the process of creating visual content. They also reduce the development time and add creativity to the process. But is it really that simple in practice? At LuxSite, we tested this approach on a real case for the “Sportlavka” brand and we are ready now to share our experience.
How the Mascot Idea Was Born
The sports nutrition brand Sportlavka needed a unique and recognizable visual style for its content. The main goal was to increase trust and engagement with the products through Instagram Stories. We realized that simply showcasing products wasn’t enough – we needed a voice that could interact with the audience. That’s how the idea to create a mascot – a superhero for a healthy lifestyle, Sportlavkaman – was born. He wasn’t just there to inform about supplements – he entertained, answered questions and built an emotional connection with followers.

Challenges and Brand Needs
1. Unique Style and Recognizability
The mascot had to become part of the brand’s visual identity, making content not only informative but also appealing. Our goal was to create a character people would enjoy looking at, the one that would evoke trust and emotional attachment. This would increase interaction time with Stories and boost brand recognition.
2. Creative Approach
Since we’re Sportlavka, why not create a ”health” superhero? However, we faced a problem: how to quickly and efficiently create illustrations for this character? Traditional illustrations would take too much time and resources, so we decided to use AI image generation.

The Process of Creation
1. Choosing the Tool
We used the paid version of Canva as it provided a convenient way to test different image generation options. At that time, Canva had just started integrating this feature, so we decided to explore its capabilities.
2. Character Generation
We set a clear task: “superhero in a green-and-red suit” – the brand’s colors. We didn’t want a generic, smooth 3D image, so we opted for a sketch-style look, resembling pencil drawings. This created the feel of hand-drawn work without the extra cost of hiring an illustrator.

Sportlavkaman gained his own personality and even a dog – another element that made him more real and interactive. Additionally, when the hero wasn’t featured in the frame, we used AI to generate products in the same visual style.

Benefits of Using AI
- Speed. Image creation took just a few minutes instead of hours.
- Cost Efficacy. No need to hire a separate illustrator for each frame.
- Creativity. AI suggested unexpected solutions we were able to adapt.

Challenges and Drawbacks
1. Inconsistency
One of the major challenges was adapting the mascot. Each AI generation produced slightly different facial features, poses and clothing details. We had to spend much time testing to find the best approach.

2. Additional Corrections
Sometimes, the character got distorted or disproportionate body parts like uneven eyes or extra fingers. The emblem on the costume could also appear blurry or change unexpectedly.
3. Time Investment
Although AI speeds up the process, it doesn’t provide a 100% perfect result. We still had to manually edit images, cut out the characters and fix small defects.
Conclusion
Sportlavkaman became a standout element of the brand’s content. The audience actively engaged with the Stories, while the unique presentation helped differentiate the brand from competitors. We successfully increased trust and made the Instagram page more visually appealing.
While AI helped us create the mascot, it cannot fully replace designers and illustrators. People appreciate the meaning and emotion conveyed by real professionals. AI definitely speeds up the process but it can’t completely automate it.
AI technologies are evolving rapidly. Perhaps soon, the artificial intelligence tools will be able to maintain a consistent style across a series of images. For now, however, human intervention is still a must to achieve the best results.
