For over 10 years, LuxSite Digital Agency has been working with various CRM systems. During this time, we’ve switched between several platforms. Each of them had its strong points, but unfortunately, none fully met all our company’s needs. That’s why we decided to switch to an ERP system – a decision that became both a challenge and growth opportunity for growth.
CRM: Our Experience and Challenges
CRM is a great tool for companies that actively work with clients and sales. We’ve used systems like Redmine, Nifty and Worksection. The latter handled the agency’s routine tasks most efficiently. However, after February 24, 2022, we discontinued its use due to the product’s origin.
Having analyzed our experience with CRM systems, we concluded that they didn’t offer full control over our business processes. We asked ourselves: “Will CRM functionality still be sufficient for us in 5 years?” The answer was unanimous – no.
Why ERP?
Our switch to an ERP system was driven by the company’s ambitious goals:
- an urge for growth,
- realization of complex projects,
- team scaling.
We needed a platform that could not only manage our client base but also support more extensive business needs – from resource management to internal coordination, analytics and document flow.
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a kind of “central hub” for company management: it integrates all processes into a unified structure and supports data-driven decision-making.
Unlike CRMs, which primarily focus on customer data collection and interactions, ERP unites data from across departments, providing centralized access for the entire agency. In other words, CRM is about the relationship between a company and its clients, while ERP is about managing the company’s internal processes.
That’s why experts value ERP systems, especially when employees spend excessive time on routine tasks that could be automated – a key priority in today’s remote work environment.
Of course, ERP implementation requires significantly more effort and resources than a CRM. But the effort is worth that as it’s an investment in the sustainable and efficient business growth.
Why Odoo?
Among multiple ERP options, we chose Odoo – an open and flexible system used by global brands like Toyota and Danone. Its basic package includes all the necessary features:
- sales and project management;
- purchasing, inventory control, MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning);
- HR modules, accounting, support systems;
- a CMS for content management.
We’ve been adapting Odoo to our company’s needs for over a year. This has been a time of challenges, decisions and a deeper understanding of how the system “thinks.” Some processes had to be configured manually, as many default settings are geared toward Western markets. Still, we’re gradually customizing the system to match our internal business processes.
What’s Next?
Implementing Odoo is just the beginning. We are also rethinking our overall approach to company management. There’s still much to do, and we continue to fine-tune the ERP platform to suit the specific needs of our agency.
In our upcoming posts, we’ll share how we configured key modules, the results we’ve achieved and what new opportunities Odoo is opening up for us.
